I build Web sites:
I specialize in creating artist web sites for either visual or sound artists. I have also done sites for writers. There are some examples below. Also this site is a good example - I redesigned it in Feb. 2006. But sometimes you may come across an older page that is somewhat ugly. And the blog is not very nicely integrated yet - I'm working on that.
If you have any interest in having me make you one, email me at or call (401) 490-1320. I am available locally in Providence, RI.
Building a website is not difficult, nor does it have to be expensive. All you need is your media (images, sounds, videos, text), any supplementary materials, and an idea of what you want. I do the rest. I can manipulate digital images or photograph digitally myself, record and manipulate sound, and also create simple animations including rollover buttons and simple flash. I have knowledge of where to find good hosting packages and how to manage a site via ftp.
Using open source web technologies such as ZenPhoto and WordPress, the site I create for you can be easily updated on any computer that has a modern web browser and an internet connection. Easy-to-use web interfaces make changing the text, images or videos in your site, or even creating new pages and galleries, a snap. Any changes you make will look perforssional because they use the templates I created for the site.
Whole website prices usually range from $150 to $300, depending on amount of pages, images, videos, or sounds. For examples, please visit the sites linked below, then contact me for an estimate!
Recent Examples:
Creaturesack.com - A dynamic wordpress site for the Creature Sack bags by Vicky Tomayko with eCommerce plugin to sell bags through paypal. [In progress]
The Artwork of Nathalie Ferrier - An artist's site using wordpress and zenphoto for total artist control of the content of the site. ~ $150
The Bayard Rustin Project - I work on updating this wordpress based site for the documentary film on Bayard Rustin, early black civil rights activist and mentor to Martin Luther King Jr.
Metropolis Band Website - Website for my band - simple but intense [2007-2008].
Brow Opera Productions {BOP} - Brown University Opera Productions group website with info, photos, integrated Google calendars and Blog. Blog and calendars are updatable by any group member, using any computer. [2007]
Vicky Tomayko - Artist - My mother who makes fantastic prints. A small but fun website. Artist updatable image galleries. [2006 - 2007]
Jon R. Friedman • Artist - My most ambitious project to date - about 400 images - using full CSS, nested html templates, rollovers, animated portraits, 3D views of sculpture and javascript stylesheet-switchers to allow the user to choose the background color on which they view Jon's artwork. Includes artist updatable galleries. This would be a much more expensive site (> $500) due to the massive amounts of images and all the custom coding. [August 2005]
Arvid Tomayko-Peters •• Squish the Squid Productions - A site similar to this would be rather more expensive due to complexity and scope (music, photos, extensive text/lists, lots of pages, flash animation, frequent updates). [last redesigned Feb. 2006]
Lary Bloom - Writer, Editor Teacher - a writer's site, [June 2005]
Martin R. Anderson - Photographer - basic artist site ~ $150 [February 2005]
Older Examples:
Janet Shafner - Artist - Basic artist site [January 2005]
Jim Peters - Artist - includes about 65 high-resolution images in web gallery format with thumbnails (images updatable by the artist), resume in PDF format, a short bio page, and a page of links to related sites. Artist updatable image galleries. [2004].
Robotto Tai - A very simple (and old) single page site with mp3 audio - a tiny website - now I would do it with CSS and it would be less stupid, but Robotto Tai is a piece of history. [2003]
I updated the DNA Gallery site for summer season 2004, working within existing site framework and adding a few of my own improvements. But now this site has been completely re-done, and none of my work is included anymore.
etc.
I also have had some experience in doing image jobs for publishing, such as scanning and restoring large numbers of images. I am also available for general maintenance and optimization of Macintosh computers on the Lower Cape.
I teach various software to people. Mostly iMovie, but also some Photoshop, etc. I would love to teach some sound related stuff as well, as that is my specialty. Drop me a line!
